Each year, APSE recognizes and celebrates the achievements of individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselvesaward1 through their contributions to the integrated employment profession and to APSE.

APSE is looking for nominees for its first Dave Hammis Innovation and second-annual Got Mike! awards, to be presented June 26 at the J.W. Marriott in Indianapolis, IN. Nominations are due May 1st.

APSE Dave Hammis Innovation Award

Dave Hammis was an incredible innovator in the field of community employment. His creativity and fresh approach to supporting individuals in integrated jobs – whether in a business or through self-employment – inspired many of us to see beyond the realities of what we thought possible. Sadly, Dave passed away in late August, 2012 of a congenital heart condition. Dave, a former aerospace engineer, job coach, and Social Security beneficiary, was the Executive Director of The Center for Social Capital and a Senior Partner with Griffin-Hammis Associates at the time of his passing. He was truly one of our field’s greatest innovators and will always be remembered for his creativity and passion.

Description: To honor Dave’s contributions to APSE and the employment of people with disabilities, this award is offered to individuals who demonstrate innovation in the area of technology, customized strategies, and/or self-employment for individuals with significant disabilities.

Second-annual “Got Mike” Award

Dr. Michael McAllister passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2009. He was a tireless advocate regarding employment for all people and a dedicated friend of APSE. Dr. Michael McAllister was also a true lover of life with many passions and interests, and inspired others to find ways to find and follow their dreams. The “Got Mike! Fund” has been established in his honor to perpetuate these passions and zest for life, and to help increase opportunities for others to live fully regardless of issues or disabilities they may have.To honor Dr. McAllister’s life and vision for integrated employment and his continual quest for educational advancement, APSE is proud to announce the second annual “Got Mike! Fund” Educational Leadership Award.

 Description:

To honor Dr. McAllister’s contributions to the advancement integrated employment, and the ongoing educational advancement of professionals interested in this field.  For the 2nd year, we continue his legacy by honoring a doctoral student whose leadership and commitment toward integrated employment is seen as outstanding, passionate, and furthering the inclusion of all people in the world of work.

Award winners will receive $1,000 and be recognized at the annual APSE National Conference.
